Story

The Gallicoop was founded in 1989, with a capital of 40 million, forints in the town of Szarvas.
The company, which started as a green field investment of more than one and a half billion forints, has undergone huge changes in the past thirty years, both in terms of its activities and the structure of the company. The first most significant change in the company, which initially operated only as a slaughterhouse, was the change of ownership in 1992. The new owners have expanded the slaughterhouse’s core activities year by year, the initial slaughter of 1,700 tons now reaches 40,000 tons. An important development step was the purchase of the fodder mixing plant in 1994, which also started the development of integration.

The production of food was planned from the beginning, in addition to the continuous development of the appropriate technology and machine park, today Gallicoop’s finished food production volume exceeds 8,500 tons per year. As a development parallel to the preparation production, the breading plant was also launched: first by producing only semi-finished products, then by expanding with a ready-baking line taking food safety aspects into account, they achieved a significant market share. Gallicoop produces nearly 8,000 tons of the 20-25,000 tons of breaded products produced in Hungary.

In 2020, 100% of the shares of Gallicoop Zrt. were purchased by three domestic private equity funds – Takarék, Béta and Status Food Private Equity Fund – thereby opening a new chapter for developments and domestic and foreign market growth. Today, Gallicoop Zrt. employs 1,100 workers, and through its integrated producers it provides the livelihood of another 1,000 people.
